Our Solutions - Team Development
Organisations have been inundated with
business process re-engineering ('hard') initiatives, on the one hand,
and with interpersonal skills type ('soft') interventions on the other.
In fact, applied research has shown us that teams need to work on both
the 'hard' and the 'soft' issues - one without the other is seldom
sufficient.
As business based Occupational
Psychologists, we use our professional skills to quickly understand the
key issues facing a team, and then facilitate a development process that
really makes a difference to the team's performance and sense of well
being. Our emphasis is on stimulating teams to apply insight in new
ways, developing their abilities to problem solve for themselves.
Perspectives offers
the following Team Development Solutions:
Team
Development Programmes
Many teams go through periods when a
change demands a re-think - when there is a key organisational change; a
changing requirement, a change in leader, or some other significant
change. Involving a third party can make the process of reviewing and
planning much more focused and effective.
At Perspectives we research the desired
outcomes carefully before recommending a suitable programme of activity.
Using current issues and challenges as a central focus, we work with
teams to develop and apply a more sophisticated understanding of their
functioning. We draw on applied research about teams and organisations
to inform our work. Depending on the needs of the team, programmes may
include some individually based work, as well as work with the team as a
whole. We have a dual focus: Outwards, on how the team functions with
its internal / external customers and suppliers; inwards, on how well
the team is organised to achieve its objectives.

Project
Based Development Programmes
When there is a specific challenge facing
a team, a need is often identified to give special attention to team working.
For example, when a large project team is pulled together to deliver a
significant project, or when a team is required to achieve a critical
strategic objective.
At Perspectives we work with teams to design
and lead tailored programmes that ensure teams are well set up to tackle
their key tasks. Working closely with the team leader, we often share
the programme leadership role with them, as we move in and out of the
business agenda.

Team
Events & Away Days
Effective teams build in regular 'time
outs' to review and improve their teamworking. There does not need to be
a particular problem to run these; they're simply a normal part of doing
business.
Team leaders and members will sometimes
see benefit in inviting an independent facilitator to assist. The role
of facilitator varies from one situation to another, and can add value
by offering fresh observations, and by stimulating the team in a
different way. This can be particularly useful if there are emotive
issues under discussion, or if the team has become temporarily 'stuck in
a rut'.
