Our Solutions - Communication &
Leadership of Change
If only every business were a one person
operation - life would be a lot simpler! Many of the difficulties and
frustrations people report in their work centre on their relationships
with others, and on the challenge of influencing people to change. And
if only people understood that just because we have e-mail, doesn't mean
that we should stop talking to each other!
As practising Occupational Psychologists, we
know that the human factors involved in engaging people, winning their
'buy in', and creating the right environment for change to occur are
usually underestimated. With the inevitable result that important
business outcomes are not achieved. So we help clients to understand
what makes for effective work relationships, and what effective
leadership of change looks like in practice. Then we work with them to
identify how best to apply the lessons learnt.
Perspectives offers
the following Communication & Leadership Of Change Solutions:
Communications
Consultancy
Building effective relationships has
received a great deal of coverage in the management press, and rightly
so. So much of what we do at work is dependent on our ability to
communicate something to, or influence, others. Paradoxically, however,
it is an area that many people take for granted, deciding instead to
invest time heavily in planning structural change, and assuming people
will understand and do what's expected of them. How often have you seen
misunderstandings or frustrations resulting from the false assumption
that once a communication has been transmitted, it has been understood
as intended?
At Perspectives we use our psychological
insight to build people's understanding about how individuals differ in
terms of their preferences for taking in and processing information. We
then use this as a basis for working with people to develop their own
communication and relationship skills. We aim to develop more effective
communications by encouraging people to consciously differentiate
between different types of communication objectives, matching the most
appropriate communication options. Just a few insights translated into
practical actions can make all the difference to the outcomes that
individuals and teams achieve.

Consultancy
Skills Training
A rapidly increasing proportion of the
workforce recognises that they need to have well developed consulting
skills in order to be effective in their job roles. This applies equally
to internal and external customers. Effective performance in this area
comes from: First, arriving at a clear understanding and acceptance of a
robust consulting framework - one that serves as a useful guide and
check for all aspects of the consulting process and activities. Second,
applying this framework so that areas of natural strength are leveraged
for an individual or team, and so that weaker aspects are properly
addressed.
Consultancy skills training is closely
related to the other solutions areas listed here. The psychological
perspective that we offer is particularly valuable in demonstrating the
significance of establishing effective consulting relationships. It can
often be useful to capture and reflect customers' feedback as part of
this kind of training activity, to prompt a grounded discussion about
customer focus.

Leadership
Of Change
Consultancy Change is one of today's
buzzwords; the ever increasing pace and scale of change... There are
relatively few professional or management roles that do not rely on
individuals successfully bringing about change, at all sorts of levels.
Organisations have responded with increased professionalism in their
project management processes. But once again, our experience is often
that it is the 'softer' aspects of leading change that are
underestimated and neglected; issues to do with creating the right
climate for change, understanding key individuals' motivations and
resistances, and mobilising all of these to give change initiatives the
best chance of success.
At Perspectives we work to bring about a
deeper understanding of what effective leadership of people through
change looks like, and how different individuals can have radically
different needs, for information and support. We then use this insight
to help people improve the quality and focus of their planning and
implementation.
